Southampton fullback Cédric Soares has given an interview to Record ahead of the Premier League match against Manchester United. The 2016 Euro Champion talked about Friday’s opponents, the Premier League competition, new manager Claude Puel and the season ahead for Southampton.
When asked about José Mourinho, Cédric said: “Friends, friends… business aside, isn’t it? It applies very well in this case. Jose Mourinho is one of the best coaches in the world and has already shown it several times. I wish him all the best always, but both me and José Fonte will fight for victory. We will always be supporting Southampton.”
On tomorrow’s match at Old Trafford, Cedric had a lot of praise for Mourinho’s side, but believes Manchester United could drop points: “United always have great teams, great players, we’re used to it. But without undervaluing them, because they have a very strong squad, everything is possible in the Premier League. There are great teams dropping points in almost every fixture, so we believe.”
Cedric was not afraid to compare the former Southampton manager Ronald Koeman, now at Everton, to Claude Puel, who has just taken charge of the team: “Different and with another kind of leadership, closer to the players.”
And finally on the Premier League season, he refused to bet on a club to win the title: “It’s a very difficult fight to predict. There are great players, great coaches, much talent. It will be exciting. The goal is to equal or do better than the 6th from last season. The responsibility has grown and we also have the Europa League.”
