The press from South American countries always gives some special attention to their own players. This is the case of outlets from Paraguay, who have been wondering why Miguel Almiron hasn’t scored for Newcastle United so far.

Outlet Cronica writes today that ‘no one questions his performances’, although it’s now been six games without finding the net. But they think the key to helping the striker could be arriving at the club.

That’s because a few days ago, it was reported the Magpies have been keeping an eye on Josef Martínez, who’s been pretty impressive for Atlanta United lately.

Since Martinez and Almiron made a great partnership at the MLS side, that could be the solution for the Paraguayan international, according to Cronica.

The outlet writes today that ‘together they formed one of the most fearsome duos in MLS’, and Almiron would have his ‘compadre’ back with him.

Cronica also make things look bigger than they are, since they write that Newcastle have ‘openly shown their interest’ in signing Martínez, although that doesn’t seem to be the case.

But the duo’s numbers for Atlanta United have indeed been impressive. While Almiron had 22 goals and 21 assists in 70 games for the club, Martínez had 86 goals and nine assists in 96 appearances.
