Last month, Pervis Estupiñán backed Brighton & Hove Albion’s decision to bring in young talents from South America in the past few years.
The Seagulls seem to be now interested in Junior Barranquilla’s Jhon Vélez. This was reported by Pasión Tiburona, which is an account dedicated to the Colombian club.
After this claim emerged, NoticiasRCN.com got in touch with people close to the 19-year-old to get an update on the reported interest from Brighton.
Gustavo Puerta’s suspension against Argentina U20 opened the door for Vélez to start for Colombia at the U20 South American championship earlier this year. He’s played a leading role since then and maintained a high level. His qualities make him a player with a ‘lot of projection’.
That has resulted in him being linked to European clubs and there have been approaches from a few sides, but not from Brighton. This was confirmed by the teenager’s entourage.
“So far, they haven’t approached [Brighton] neither the club nor us. I have read that too,” a source close to Vélez told NoticiasRCN.com.
The same source also revealed they ‘will seek to contact’ Brighton to find out if there’s a ‘way to start a possible negotiation’ for Vélez.
