Watford technical director Ben Manga has revealed a desire to be at the top of the chain led to his move to Vicarage Road last year.

Manga joined Watford as their new technical director at the end of December, moving from Eintracht Frankfurt, where he had been the director of professional football from July 2021.

Before that he had been the chief scout at the German club, a role that saw him establish himself as one of the best talent scouts in Europe.

He secured a number of top talents for the Bundesliga club over the years, with his biggest success story currently France star Randal Kolo Muani.

Given his success down the years it is surprising that either he or Frankfurt would want to split, with their relationship very much a successful one.

Manga, though, says the move to Watford came about because he was ready to make the step up professionally.

“For me, it always depends on the task. I was second string for a long time and now I’ve decided that I want more responsibility,” he told Hessenchau.

“Sometimes, things just change. At Eintracht, it was the case that the sporting department changed after Fredi Bobic left. Markus Krösche came in and everything was fine.

“Only at some point we noticed that the approaches were different. Personally, we got along well. We just noticed that we had different approaches.”
