Norwich City signed Sydney van Hooijdonk on a loan deal from Bologna on deadline day of the winter market.
The striker was convinced to leave the Serie A side after struggling for regular game time this season. They signed him from NAC Breda in 2021, but the 24-year-old hasn’t been able to replicate his Eredivisie form in Italy.
Algemeen Dagblad interviewed Van Hooijdonk and when asked about his first impression about Norwich City, he said: “It’s enjoyable.”
The frontman is hopeful of regaining his Breda form at Norwich City. To give you context, he scored 23 goals and registered four assists from 70 games for the Dutch club.
David Wagner’s side have an option to make his stay permanent in the summer and he wants to convince them to exercise it through his performances.
“I’m longing to have more stability again, not having to keep packing my bags. I’ll do my best to leave a good impression with Norwich, who have agreed to an option to purchase. After that it’s up to the club what they want with us next summer,” Van Hooijdonk explained.
Last weekend, the Dutchman made his Norwich City debut when he came off the bench late in the game in their league win over Coventry City.
Van Hooijdonk was pleased with the reception he received from the Canaries’ supporters at Carrow Road and also from his teammates.
“During my warm-up, they were chanting my name all the time in the stands. Very special to experience. To be received so fantastically, also by my teammates. Yes, that does something to you,” he added.
