Denmark manager Brian Riemer has warned Patrick Dorgu of the huge expectations that await him at Manchester United after sealing his move from Lecce.
The Denmark coach has been speaking to Tipsbladet about Danish players who were on the move in the January transfer window, which naturally meant a discussion about Dorgu.
He was one of the big-name moves completed late in the window, joining Manchester United in a €30m move from Italian side Lecce.
It’s a big step up for the 20-year-old, who started his career in his native Denmark before moving to Lecce’s U19 side in 2022.
He rose through the ranks from then to become a key player and the hope is that he can help Manchester United resolve their long-standing issues at left-back or left wing-back in Ruben Amorim’s system.
Fortunately for him he will find a familiar face in the Manchester United dressing room, with fellow Dane Rasmus Hojlund having moved to Manchester United in 2023.
That should help matters, but Riemer wants to warn the youngster about the pressure that awaits him at Manchester United moving forwards.
“It is a huge endorsement of Danish talent development that two of our greatest talents, Rasmus Højlund and Patrick Dorgu, are part of perhaps the world’s greatest club,” he said.
“Patrick must know that when he goes from Lecce to Manchester United, the expectations and pressure are completely different. He has also had a lot of considerations about that with his supporters.
“If he succeeds, the gain is also greater, because then he is on the biggest blade. He has every opportunity to take a huge step forward in his career, but it is up to him to seize the chance.”
