With Gustavo Scarpa having the final months of his contract with Palmeiras, it’s absolutely no secret in Brazil that he’ll soon be joining Nottingham Forest as a free agent.

So as club legend Edmundo was speaking this week about the Verdão’s squad in this final stretch of the season, he made a few comments about the midfielder leaving the club.

The former striker, who now has a Youtube channel, believes Scarpa will regret his decision to join Nottingham Forest, since he won’t be able to fight for big things there.

“Scarpa is a special situation because it’s very personal for him to want this adventure in European football. I think somehow he will regret it. Because those who are used to achievements, playing in a team that will fight against relegation, is very frustrating,” said Edmundo.

“But man, Scarpa is a different being. He’s low profile, has his ideas, skates, solve that Rubik’s Cube, anyway. He’s a little more than just a football player. So I think it’s his idea and Palmeiras couldn’t renew his contract.”

Gustavo Scarpa indeed got used to winning big things for Palmeiras.

Among his trophies, there are the 2018 Brazilian League, 2020 Brazilian club and the 2020 and 2021 Copa Libertadores.

The midfielder is now probably on his peak, and that’s why the Verdão are hurt by seeing him leaving to Nottingham Forest for free.

According to recent reports, they even tried to hold him by paying a €5m and cancel his pre-agreement with the Reds, but the player turned down that possibility, as he dreams of playing in European football, with the Tricky Trees giving him that opportunity.
