On Tuesday, Spanish outlet Marca broke the news saying Raphael Varane may not want to renew his contract with Real Madrid, and since his deal expires in 2022, the club would feel forced to sell him in the summer.

That’s the kid of situation which opens the possibility for many transfer stories, and Mundo Deportivo comes up with a good one today. Manchester United were named as a possible destination by Marca, and now Mundo point out the club have always had Varane on their agenda, and might now find a good chance to sign him in the summer.

It’s said the Frenchman has been part of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s list for a while, with the Red Devils having already made approaches for his signing.

“Varane has been monitored in the past,” a source close to the manager told Mundo Deportivo.

Real Madrid never really opened doors for the transfer, but given the current situation, it’s said Florentino Perez could be the one taking the phone to find a solution.

Mundo Deportivo adds that Manchester United could now have Varane as a cheaper option than before. When reporting the news on Monday, Marca pointed out he’s valued at €70m by Transfermarkt, but in their newspaper said €50m could seal a deal.
