Espanyol goalkeeper Joan García will not be signing for Arsenal, with a deadline day move now completely ruled out.
That’s according to Marca, who report that Espanyol have completely ruled out anything happening and told as much to Arsenal.
The newspaper reports that the ‘soap opera has come to an end’ unless there is a major, unexpected turn of events.
García will be remaining at Espanyol, who have become stronger each time they have spoken to Arsenal regarding the player.
The Gunners were very interested in the goalkeeper as a back up to David Raya after selling Aaron Ramsdale. They had reached an agreement with the player but were unable to convince Espanyol to sell.
They continued to point to the goalkeeper’s €30m release clause and have maintained that position on deadline day.
Arsenal don’t want to pay such a figure for a player who will be a backup and have withdrawn their interest at this point. They’re instead signing Neto from Bournemouth.
That’s now the plan and unless there is a major change, García will remain where he is and the late soap opera around him will be over.
