Boubacar Kamara’s contract with Marseille expires at the end of the current season, so there’s the very real chance the club could lose the midfielder for nothing next summer.
That would be a serious blow, given the 21-year-old was born in the Marseille area and came through the ranks at the club.
Kamara renewing and staying for another season or two, before a big money move elsewhere, would likely be the ideal scenario, yet that’s not the way things are going.
Wednesday’s edition of L’Equipe takes a look at the situation and says Marseille ‘did everything’ they could to try and sell the player to Newcastle United or Wolves in the final days of the summer window.
He resisted and has continued to be important.
L’Equipe explain there have been renewal talks, but they’re not regular. A renewal is possible, but not close.
It’s a ‘soap opera’.
Marseille have put forward several options, for short, medium and long term contracts, all of which would have some kind of exit agreement.
Indeed, the possibility of him renewing and moving in the summer, for a fee rather than free, isn’t completely ruled out.
Whether Wolves or Newcastle would be interested at that stage isn’t known.
