Arne Slot should make a big move to sign Barcelona’s Frenkie De Jong for Liverpool this summer, so the Dutchman can start to win more trophies.
That’s according to former Feyenoord player Kaj Ramsteijn, who believes the two could be a perfect fit at Anfield.
Slot is expected to be named as the new Liverpool manager in the next few days after the Reds struck an agreement with Feyenoord for him on Friday.
They made their move for him earlier last week, which was initially rejected, but the Dutchman’s desire to make the move paved the way for a deal to be agreed between the two clubs.
It’s believed his arrival could be the start of a major overhaul at Liverpool, with the returning Michael Edwards and new sporting director Richard Hughes expected to change up the squad they’ve inherited.
That’s already seen several Feyenoord stars linked with a move, which is to be expected, but Ramsteijn believes Slot and his team should be turning their attention elsewhere.
In fact, he thinks they should be looking at a fellow Dutchman currently playing in La Liga, Frenkie de Jong.
“Arne Slot to Liverpool, take Frenkie De Jong with you,” Ramsteijn’s told Voetbal Primeur.
“I would think that would be a nice club for him. I think Frenkie is so good that I really want to see him play for trophies. Of course he became champion last year, but if Real Madrid sign Kylian Mbappé next summer…
“Then they will become champions by a mile in the next five seasons. Especially given the financial situation of FC Barcelona.
“And the Premier League seems really fantastic to me. He can play anywhere. He gets the ball, turns away and creates a surplus.”
