Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea are in the picture to sign RB Leipzig star Joško Gvardiol.
The 20-year-old, who can operate in the heart of defence and also as a left-back, attracted attention from a few clubs in the summer, but the Bundesliga side refused to let him leave.
Calciomercato.it now explain Inter Milan tried signing the versatile player in the last transfer window but found themselves in a ‘very heated’ battle between Tottenham and Chelsea. Therefore, the Serie A side withdrew from the chase.
Leipzig, down their end, were successful in convincing the Croatia international to sign a new contract last month. His current deal runs until 2027 and it includes a pay rise. As per the report, the Croatian’s valuation has now ‘shot up’ to around €60m.
The German club renewed the defender’s contract ‘to be safe’, given that the ‘skirmishes continue’ between Tottenham and Chelsea. They add Gvardiol remains a goal for the two Premier League sides.
On September 21st, Gvardiol said he didn’t consider leaving Leipzig in the summer but has opened the door for a transfer in 2023. This would be received as encouragement for both Spurs and the Blues, if they are keen to sign him in the future.
