Cristian Romero and Lisandro Martínez have had visa issues during the current international break, and it meant they were not able to link up with Argentina in the United States.
Two days ago, TyC Sports reported the duo were yet to have their documents processed by the US embassy and the delay was caused by a mourning period after Queen Elizabeth II’s death.
Martínez has now travelled to Miami after receiving an authorisation, while the Tottenham Hotspur player ‘did not obtain a visa’. That’s according to Agencia Télam, who state the 24-year-old didn’t have paperwork in order to travel to the US.
Since the start of this week, both the Manchester United defender and Antonio Conte’s man were working in Buenos Aires to get visas, after they failed to obtain it in England.
The two went to the US embassy in Buenos Aires on Wednesday, but only Martínez was given authorisation to travel.
The Spurs centre-back, in principle, is set to receive his visa today and will only be able to arrive in Miami late on Thursday. This will prevent him from featuring against Honduras at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami on Friday.
The situation with Tottenham defender ‘provoked anger’ from Argentina manager Lionel Scaloni’s since Romero is an ‘undisputed starter’ for La Albiceleste. He is also not happy considering that Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martínez had managed to obtain a visa in advance.
According to the report, Real Betis’ Germán Pezzella is set to take Romero’s place in the starting lineup to face Honduras tomorrow.
