Earlier this season, Fiorentina’s Michael Kayode made his senior team debut and his fine displays have caught the attention of other clubs, especially Arsenal.
On October 3rd, Firenze Viola stated the 19-year-old’s growth at the Serie A side has seen the Gunners send their scouts to observe him live in action. Two days later, his former coach admitted that he was aware of Arsenal’s interest in the right-back.
Today’s Corriere dello Sport states the ‘sinister presence’ of Arsenal officials to watch the defender didn’t worry the Italian club too much, but it did give them something of a nudge.
His deal lasts until 2025 with an option for another year and the report claims it includes a salary of €30,000 per year.
It’s claimed La Viola have now reached a verbal agreement with the youngster for a new contract until 2028, and it’ll include an annual salary of €1m.
Kayode is currently on international duty with Italy U21s and as soon as he returns to the club, the newspaper states the ‘long awaited signature’ for the renewal will arrive.
Fiorentina were worried that Arsenal and other clubs could be involved in a potential auction for Kayode in January, and that has seen their officials take action to tie him down to an improved deal.
The renewal, however, shouldn’t stop Mikel Arteta’s side and others from potentially making an attempt to sign the defender next summer.
