Tottenham Hotspur‘s Cristian Romero remains an option for Barcelona ahead of the summer.
Earlier this week, Sport Witness covered claims from Spain of the centre-back being the main alternative to Alessandro Bastoni.
Inter Milan are demanding €70m for the Italian, who is the priority defensive target for the La Liga winners.
However, Barcelona are refusing to match that and have identified the Tottenham star as a Plan B.
Last summer, Atlético Madrid were keen on signing the Argentina international, but Spurs refused to sell and tied him down to a new contract.
Despite the renewal, the World Cup winner seems to be looking for a way out of the north London club and Barcelona are the latest club to have shown interest.
Inter react to Barca interest in Tottenham star
Saturday’s edition of Sport reiterates Alessandro Bastoni remains the main target for the centre-back position.
His immediate focus is on helping the Serie A side win the title. They are leading the table, 10 points ahead of second placed Napoli and can secure the trophy with a win over Parma on Sunday.
Meanwhile, the Nerazzurri are anticipating the Italy international’s exit and are looking for his successor.
However, Barcelona’s interest in Cristian Romero has led to ‘concern’ and ‘nervousness’ at Inter Milan.
The San Siro club were planning to hold talks with Hansi Flick’s side next week over a deal for Bastoni. Sport say they want €60m, which is €10m less than earlier claims.
Barcelona don’t want to pay more than €50m, and would preferably part with less and send a player as part of the deal.
Inter Milan fear jeopardising the deal if they take a strong stance on the price, forcing the Camp Nou side to push for Romero.
The 28-year-old’s price is less than what Inter are demanding for Bastoni. In addition to this, the Spurs defender is keen on making a switch to Barcelona. Inter Milan fear these factors could ‘tip the scales’ in the South American’s favour.
Online, Sport add Romero’s price could drop further if Roberto De Zerbi’s side are relegated to the Championship. Spurs are 18th in the table, two points behind 17th placed West Ham United.
The Argentine knows he isn’t their priority and is waiting to find ‘if he’s the final choice’. If that happens, he’s ‘open to accepting’ an offer from Barcelona.
Romero can’t help Tottenham
Tottenham Hotspur have four league matches to avoid relegation. Cristian Romero picked up an injury in Spurs’ league defeat to Sunderland last month.
He is unlikely to feature again this season and therefore, can’t help the north London club in the relegation battle.
The Argentine played 32 matches and even managed six goals and four assists for Spurs this season.
