Fluminense have signing Chelsea defender Thiago Silva as ‘the board’s priority’ for the summer, according to claims from Brazil.

Newspaper O Dia today claims that as the centre-back should not renew his contract with the Blues, which expires in a few months, the Rio de Janeiro side want to take advantage of the situation.

The initial plan from Fluminense had been to sign Silva at the start of the year, but since Chelsea did not let him leave back then, they had to postpone his arrival.

Now the defender is already able to sign a pre-contract with any club he wants, yet it doesn’t really sound like he’s doing that before the season with the Blues comes to an end.

Even though Silva’s return to Fluminense has been a big story in the Brazilian media for a while, it’s really this year that there’s more certainty that he’s not signing a new contract with Chelsea and will really be able to return to his home country.

At the age of 39, the defender continues to be useful for the Blues, with 31 appearances this season, but it really seems like he’s having his final games for the club.
