Bayern Munich paying €85m to sign Carlos Baleba from Brighton and Hove Albion would ‘contradict’ the recent plans at the club.

That’s according to Fussball Transfers. They pour cold water on the rumours about the Brighton man today, in a piece largely focused on Leon Goretzka.

Bayern have been heavily linked with a move for Baleba in recent weeks. The midfielder appears likely to be the next major departure from Brighton sometime in the near future.

He has admirers all over Europe and Bayern have been added onto the list in the last few weeks. One report indicated that they could make an €85m move in the near future.

Fussball Transfers say such a move would ‘contradict the recent plans’ of sporting director Max Eberl and his team. They’ve indicated that they have other plans than paying such sums. Furthermore, extending Leon Goretzka’s contract ‘would be the more advantageous option’.

The 30-year-old is well liked at German club. He initially wasn’t in the plans when Vincent Kompany arrived in 2024 but has battled back since then. If they can convince him to lower his wages, he would be a cheaper option than the Brighton man.

It’s something Bayern need to weigh up in the coming months. But for now, Fussball Transfers seem dubious about an €85m move for Baleba.
