Last week, TuttoSport reported West Ham are monitoring the situation of AC Milan’s Santiago Gimenez.

The newspaper were confident that the Mexican would be interested in the move, having previously rejected the Hammers and Nottingham Forest.

So far this season, he is yet to score even once for the Rossoneri. He’s also facing fitness issues, having lost his starting spot under Max Allegri.

TuttoSport, relayed by MilanNews, take a further look at the 24-year-old.

They speak of interest from West Ham but indicate that the Italian side could be looking to encourage an auction for the player. This isn’t just because they want to get rid of Gimenez, rather that they’ve identified Midtjylland’s Franculino as a replacement.

The Danish side want €40m to sell the striker, with Milan unlikely to be able to afford that without Gimenez’s sale.

Something similar is reported by today’s Corriere della Sera.

They claim – relayed by MilanNews, that the Rossoneri hope that West Ham make a ‘significant offer’ for the Mexican. There is also interest from Sunderland and this encourages hope of a better deal than will likely be reality.

The two English clubs have a higher financial capacity than most Italian sides. That’s why their interest is welcomed.
