Liam Millar spent five years at Liverpool before leaving the Merseyside club for FC Basel in the last window.

The striker made only one appearance for the Reds’ senior team, which came in the FA Cup win over Shrewsbury Town in 2020.

During his time at Anfield, he was also sent out on loan to Kilmarnock and Charlton Athletic.

Things have vastly improved for the 22-year-old since he arrived in Switzerland. He has featured 25 times in all competitions this season, managing five goals and four assists in the process.

Taking the Canada international’s recent performances into account, which includes three goals in last five matches, blue Sport state ‘money well spent’ [around €1.58m] from Basel.

They also interviewed Millar, who admitted wanting to showcase his qualities convinced him to leave Jürgen Klopp’s side.

“Either stay at Liverpool and fight for appearances in the first team or use the opportunity to come to Basel and play at the European stage and show what I can do there. I haven’t lost my faith in the Premier League,” Millar said.

Millar has hinted he still has the desire to return to England, despite his struggles at Liverpool and vast improvement in his situation at Basel.
