After Harry Kane’s injury, Tottenham Hotspur were linked to a long list of strikers, with most of the names not making much sense.

One of these guys was Andy Carroll, who hasn’t scored a single league goal this season and doesn’t look like a guy to solve Kane’s absence.

Still, a couple of English outlets said a bid from Spurs was being made to West Ham, which didn’t really result in anything, as the White Hart Lane side ended one more transfer window without making any signings.

Now as Galicia Press tells the story of Celta Vigo’s transfers in January, they recall West Ham’s efforts to sign Maxi Gomez, and makes some comments on what happened in the English market during that time.

The most curious claim is about Carroll being ‘close to joining’ Tottenham Hotspur in the winter market, which would have helped the Gomez move.

On deadline day, it was from Spain that claims first appeared of Michy Bathuayi wanting a Tottenham transfer. That one, however, was at least slightly more believable.
