Sheffield Wednesday manager Carlos Carvalhal was compared to José Mourinho by a Portuguese newspaper on Wednesday.

The comparison was made because of Sheffield Wednesday’s win against Bristol City last night, as the home team were trailing 2-0 and ended up winning the match with a goal in stoppage time.

Carvalhal Record September 14thRecord said the win reminded them of José Mourinho’s Champions League progression against Manchester United at Old Trafford, when he was still manager at Porto.

At that time, Costinha scored a late equaliser to give the club a way through to the semifinals, and send Mourinho running down the touchline.

The Portuguese media are keeping an eye on the Championship this season, due to Carlos Carvalhal and a few Portuguese loanees at clubs.

Local newspapers publish short stories about every game these players take part in, and Carvalhal exploits at Sheffield Wednesday get a mention weekly.

The manager has done well since coming to England, but we’re not sure beating Bristol City 3-2 at home is really comparable to Mourinho’s famous night at Old Trafford.
