Former Sheffield Wednesday defender Roland Nilsson believes Leeds United star Pontus Jansson can make the step up to the Premier League. The Swede joined Leeds United from Torino and a permanent move looks likely. It was Nilsson who helped launch Jansson’s career at Malmo helping convert the player from a forward to a defender.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Nilsson was asked how far Jansson can go after impressing since joining Leeds United. Nillson had spells with Sheffield Wednesday and Coventry City in the top flight of English football and the former Sweden international thinks Jansson can do the same. The 53-year-old said since arriving in England his compatriot has shown his ability, and if he can stay fit he can help Leeds United achieve promotion.

“I definitely think he can play in the Premier League because he works hard and he wants to get better. He’s shown everyone at Leeds he can do it there and I think he can do it in the Premier League. If Jansson maintains this form, he might just do that in a Leeds shirt too,” said the Sheffield Wednesday legend.

Leeds United are on course to land one of the play-off places after their recent form, and Jansson has been one of the key players this season. The Sweden international has spoken in the past about wanting to help Leeds United get back into the Premier League, which could be achieved this season.
