RC Strasbourg join West Ham United and Rangers in the chase for Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper Pierce Charles this summer.
West Ham and Rangers have made bids to sign the 20-year-old, and the Owls have turned them down. The French club have been added to his suitors list.
This has been reported in the UK and L’Equipe, after relaying it, provide their own updates on Strasbourg’s interest in the Sheffield Wednesday player.
The England-born Northern Ireland international has a contract until 2027, and the Ligue 1 side are in negotiations with the Championship club to sign him permanently.
L’Equipe explains Henrik Pedersen’s side have rejected proposals from both West Ham and Rangers but could ‘quickly accept the much more interesting’ offer from Strasbourg.
The French club are owned by BlueCo, who also own Chelsea. They signed Mike Penders on loan from the Club World Cup winners and have Karl-Johan Johnsson, with a contract until 2026.
Strasbourg’s plan is to buy Charles and send him back on loan to Sheffield Wednesday for a season. This should be beneficial for the Owls, both in a sporting sense and financially. It could be the reason for them to favour Strasbourg over West Ham and Rangers.
