If there’s some legacy left by Carlos Carvalhal at Sheffield Wednesday, that is to scout games from the Portuguese league.

The Owls are one of the few Championship clubs who often have scouts working in Portugal, and that happened again this weekend.

As reported by newspaper A Bola, club emissaries watched the Liga NOS game between Benfica and Aves, which the home side won 2-0.

The newspaper doesn’t seem to know who the Sheffield Wednesday scouts had an eye on, so it’s impossible to know if there’s a specific target. The Owls had been linked to Benfica’s João Amaral this summer, but he ended up leaving the club.

Just as expected, Benfica didn’t have much difficulty to beat Aves. With great performances from João Amaral, Pizzi and Eduardo Salvio, they controlled the entire game and got a safe 2-0 result which kept them on top of the table.

For the away side, goalkeeper Quentin Beunardeau did a good job stopping Benfica from scoring more, and winger Hamdou Elhouni was the one who managed to offer a bit of danger.

Besides Sheffield Wednesday, scouts from Everton, Manchester United, Atletico Madrid and Tondela have also attended to the match.
