Sheffield United, Southampton and Birmingham City are in the race to sign SC Braga’s Joe Mendes.
Last season, the right-back was on loan at FC Basel, who decided against exercising their option to buy him. He’s returned to Braga but is expected to leave them permanently this summer.
Sheffield United, Southampton and Birmingham City are among the five clubs keen on buying him.
That’s according to Expressen, and they state that as well as the Championship trio, Union Berlin and Samsunspor are also in the picture. It’s claimed these five clubs are in talks and are working to try and secure the 22-year-old’s services.
The Swede has a contract lasting until 2028, but the report states he’s on the verge of leaving the Primeira Liga side. Mendes should decide his next club in the coming days.
Sheffield United, Southampton, Birmingham City, Union Berlin and Samsunspor will be waiting for his final decision. The report makes no mention of Braga’s stance or their request to sell the fullback.
Journalist Anel Avdić covered this report for Expressen, and he took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to add that Sheffield United, Southampton, Birmingham City, Union Berlin and Samsunspor are in ‘concrete talks’ to sign Mendes.
