Anel Ahmedhodžić is going through something of a drama relating to the Bosnia and Herzegovina national team.

The Sheffield United player left the national team camp midway through, report Bosnia’s Raport, with it saying he returned to England and left his country ‘in the lurch’ ahead of a match against the Netherlands on Saturday.

Raport state nobody knew what had really gone on, and the reasons behind the Sheffield United player leaving.

They’ve now picked up comments from Anel Ahmedhodžić’s father, Mirsad Ahmedhodžić.

He says he hasn’t had contact with his son since last year and the footballer is ‘under the influence of his wife and mother-in-law’.

Bosnia manager Sergej Barbarez had earlier said Anel Ahmedhodžić asked to return to England due to a fitness issue.

Avaz quoted him as saying: “We thought that the injury was not too big.”

On previous controversies involving the player and the national team, the manager said: “I didn’t even inform myself about what happened before. I wasn’t too interested. It’s a bit of a strange situation, but it’s far from the fact that we don’t trust our player and his feelings. It was resolved quickly, he asked to be treated at home and no problem. I said that everyone is here of their own free will.”

This is the latest in a long string of dramas the Sheffield United player has experienced with Bosnia. He’s previously simply not turned up for some call-ups, and on an occasion when he said he was injured the association asked him to travel for assessment. He did not, and subsequently faced a suspension.

That history is why this situation is getting so much attention in Bosnia.
