Spanish side Leganés have Sheffield United goalkeeper Ivan Grbic on their list of options this summer, as he wants to return to Spain.
That’s according to AS, who say that Leganés have known for a week that there is a possibility to get the former Atletico Madrid man.
The newspaper explains that Grbic is one of the names that Leganés have on their list as they look to strengthen in their goalkeeping department this summer.
They club are facing the possibility of there being two holes to fill in the position this summer, with Diego Conde potentially joining Villarreal and Juan Soriano off to Tenerife.
Thus, they are looking on the market to find replacements and the Sheffield United man is one of the options on their list.
He has only been with Sheffield United since joining them in the January transfer window from Atletico Madrid, where he had been the number two to Jan Oblak.
However, his ‘outlook there is confusing’ according to AS and he wants to return to Spain if the opportunity is there for him. Leganés, therefore, see him as a potential market opportunity.
Grbic wants to return to La Liga as he’s had ‘six months of misfortune’ at Sheffield United to date, which culminated in him missing out on Euro 2024, which he had dreamed of being a part of.
Croatia’s disappointing tournament in Germany could lead to changes, though, and so Grbic wants to ensure he’s at a new club and playing regularly so he can get his international career back on track.
Leganés could be the ideal location, although they have other options on their list and are yet to seriously move for him. Grbic’s desire to return to Spain could change that stance, however.
