Anderlecht coach Bryan Riemer has admitted they are working on a deal for Brentford’s Sergi Canos but convincing him isn’t a quick process.
Riemer has been speaking to Het Nieuwsblad, relayed by Anderlecht Online, regarding the Spaniard as he is linked with a move to Belgium.
Canos is in the final year of his deal with Brentford, who exercised an option to extend his contract by a year this summer in order to sell him for whatever they could.
The player is determined to join ‘dream’ club Valencia but their unwillingness to pay a transfer fee and instead do a deal with sell on clauses is yet to satisfy Brentford.
In the meantime, Anderlecht have emerged as an alternative destination for him, with coach Bryan Riemer more than aware of what he offers thanks to working alongside him at Brentford for several years.
A report yesterday claimed that the Belgian side had found an agreement with the player to make the move, but he was holding them at arm’s length as he waits for Valencia to negotiate a deal instead.
Now Riemer has hinted that they are working on the deal, but the player is holding it up for now.
“You shouldn’t believe everything you hear and read,” he said regarding Valencia’s interest in Canos and a potential move there.
“I knew him as if he were a son to me. I’m sure he’s interested in Anderlecht’s project. But getting a player out of the Premier League takes time. We shall soon see.”
