While Chelsea and Manchester United both have starting right-backs (or right wing-backs in the Blues’ case), the idea that a move from either of them for Denzel Dumfries could take place refuses to go away.

For the Red Devils, the fact Aaron Wan-Bissaka isn’t anywhere to be seen would mean more competition for Diogo Dalot, while the Stamford Bridge side definitely need a proper backup for Reece James, as César Azpilicueta’s legs not what they once were.

That’s why the Dutchman is still a reported target for Manchester United and Chelsea, with Inter Live bringing it back to the fore on Thursday.

The idea stems from the fact his performances are raising his value, as Dumfries ‘has reached a value of around €45-50m’, and ‘in the summer – if not even in January – he could even end up in the Premier League’.

Despite Inter not wanting to ‘deprive themselves’ of their flying Dutchman, especially not mid-season, they know ‘the shadow of Manchester United and Chelsea continues to float over him’.

With this in mind, there are some behind the scenes, namely intermediaries and agents, prepping for a potential departure, which is why the name of Juan Cuadrado, out of contract in the summer, has surfaced.

There’s also Torino’s Wilfried Singo, who is a younger option, although he would cost a transfer fee as well as a contract, while the Colombian would join on a free.

Either way, Manchester United and Chelsea seem to be lurking, with both of their managers liking the idea of wide defenders overlapping, which is exactly what Dumfries excels at.
