Belgian midfielder Radja Nainggolan is reportedly on the verge of signing a new contract with Roma after rejecting Chelsea during the last transfer market.
According to Goal.com Italia, the Blues made a few attempts to sign the player, but were unsuccessful over the summer summer. Especially with a late offer, when Roman Abramovich offered the 28-year-old a salary of €6m per season at Stamford Bridge.
The midfielder reportedly said he already had a verbal agreement to sign a new deal with Roma, and he’s expected to have his salary raised from €4m to €5m per year at the club. That would more recognise his importance to the Italian team.
Goal Italia says the official announcement is a mere formality as both parties are very close to reaching a deal, and the contract should be sorted out by the start of October.
The length of Nainggolan’s current contract, which lasts until June 2020, is unlikely to change under the new deal.
