Over the past few weeks, we have seen Newcastle United getting linked to Estudiantes star Benjamín Rollheiser.
Even though Benfica are said to lead the race for him, the Portuguese media claimed the Magpies are a threat for their signing.
As journalist Cesar Luis Merlo today brings some quotes from Estudiantes vice-president Juan Sebastian Veron, the Argentine side are confirming that Rollheiser is soon leaving them.
“Unfortunately we have to sell. Sales are the driving force of the club.”
Merlo adds that Benfica are at the ‘final stage’ of getting the transfer done.
Claims from the Argentine media recently said that Estudiantes have the player valued at €8m, and it sounds like that amount would be quite affordable for both Benfica and Newcastle.
Still, with the Eagles seeming to be on the lead, the Magpies should have to move fast to have any chances of landing the player now.
In case Rollheiser does move to Lisbon and is then wanted by Newcastle or other Premier League clubs, we all know how much more expensive he could get, as we’ve seen this film many times in the past few years.
