Barcelona’s Philippe Coutinho joined Aston Villa on a loan deal in the winter market to have more prominence and enjoy regular playing time in the second half of the season.
As a part of the agreement between Steven Gerrard’s side and the Blaugrana, the former have an option to buy the attacking midfielder in the summer.
On April 5th, Sport explained the €40m needed to buy the Brazil international is ‘not a problem’ for Aston Villa.
The former Liverpool star has impressed for the Premier League this season, managing four goals and three assists from 12 matches.
Regarding Coutinho, they point out that after a ‘spectacular star’, his form for Aston Villa has ‘dropped a bit’ in recent matches. The 29-year-old has failed to score or assist in the last four outings.
The report further adds that ‘it seems difficult’ for the English club to pay the €40m fee needed to make the South American’s stay permanent.
His contract at Barca is until 2023 and the ‘logical thing’ for the La Liga side is to negotiate Coutinho’s sale in the summer, in order to ‘earn some money’.
