Wout Weghorst isn’t good enough to represent Manchester United and the Netherlands, according to Ruud Gullit.
The striker has managed two goals and two assists from 18 matches for the Red Devils since he joined them on a dry loan deal from Burnley. He is yet to score for Erik ten Hag’s side in the league.
Ronald Koeman included the Manchester United player in the national team squad for this month’s international break. His performances didn’t please Gullit, who was critical of his compatriot during Ziggo Sport’s Rondo, relayed by Soccernews.
“I always look at him in a weird way. I have a lot of admiration for him, but at the same time I think: he is not good enough for Manchester United and the Orange. Every now and then you see defects,” he said.
Ziggo Sport presenter Wytse van der Goot has called the striker ‘Pechhorst’ and that was been supported by the former Chelsea midfielder. Pech is Dutch for unlucky.
Weghorst failed to score for the Netherlands in the two matches against France and Gibraltar this month. The Manchester United striker isn’t pleased with his own displays.
“There were a few situations where I was close, but just not all the way. It’s just… just rubbish,” he told ESPN NL, as quoted by Soccernews.
“Unlucky? Whether it’s just bad luck… Ultimately, it’s also quality. You have to be honest about that too. You can call it bad luck, but that last ball of mine was allowed in. As a striker you know that you can score in these kinds of competitions.”
