Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Gonçalo Guedes has struggled since he returned to Benfica on another loan deal last summer. He’s clocked in 115 minutes from eight league matches and that includes only one start.
On Tuesday, O Jogo stated the forward wants to know if Benfica manager Roger Schmidt will offer him more game time in the second half of the season. It was also said Valencia, Villarreal and an unnamed Saudi Arabian club are showing interest in him.
Wednesday’s Record’s focuses on the Yellow Submarine’s interest in the Wolves owned player.
It’s claimed the 27-year-old is ‘seduced by this possibility’ because Marcelino García Toral is currently in charge at Villarreal.
The Portugal international was managed by the Spaniard when they pair were at Valencia and he had the best spell of his career under Marcelino’s orders. Villarreal’s aim is to sign a winger in January and they’re closely monitoring the Wolves man.
Record state the Spanish club don’t have the necessary funds to buy Guedes and can only sign him on loan. This would only be possible if Benfica agree to cut short his temporary stay.
Guedes’ willingness to leave the Eagles may help Villarreal in their pursuit to take him on a loan deal.
If he were to do well for Villarreal, Wolves may be in a position to request a decent fee next summer.
In short, a move away from Benfica could benefit both Gary O’Neil’s side and Guedes.
