At one point, it looked like Jens Cajuste was set to leave FC Midtjylland and complete a switch to Rennes. This was before Newcastle United and Brentford arrived at the scene.

On Monday, RMC Sport journalist Loïc Tanzi reported the two English clubs are ‘looking to move forward’ to sign the midfielder.

The Magpies interest in the 21-year-old is further backed up by Sweden’s SportExpressen.

It’s claimed the interest from England has ‘intensified’ as the Sweden international is ‘hunted’ by four Premier League sides. Among them are Newcastle, who have shown ‘concrete interest’ in the midfielder.

Steve Bruce’s side are said to be in discussions with both Cajuste’s representatives and also his employer, and the Tyneside club are preparing a bid to sign the in-demand star.

SportExpressen raise a question whether or not Newcatsle can find an agreement with Midtjylland for his signing, but what’s clear is that the transfer is approaching for Cajuste.

Cajuste returned from his holidays this week and his omission from Tuesday’s Champions League qualifier suggest a ‘big sale may be imminent’.
