As far as the French press have been concerned, Stoke City’s Giannelli Imbula was on his way to Monaco.

Waiting to get rid of some deadweight before confirming the move, the Ligue 1 champions might not want to wait too long before making it official if RMC Sport are to be believed.

Publishing an article about Grzegorz Krychowiak’s situation at Paris Saint-Germain and Lyon’s apparent interest in the player, the French media outlet suggested that if plan A were to fail, they could turn to the Stoke City midfielder.

The Potters appear keen on offloading their record signing as soon as possible, and with both Monaco and Lyon with cash to burn after some impressive sales this summer, a move back to France could be rejuvenating for the 24-year-old.

After all, that’s where his professional career began at Guingamp, and with a career to get back on track after failed moves to Porto and Stoke, it might be for the best.

Monaco are still in the lead, and having sent Youssef Aït Bennasser on loan to Caen for the season, there’s a bit more room in the principality club’s squad.
