FC Nantes have entered the race for Watford winger Othmane Maamma and are battling Lille for his signature.

That’s according to Foot Mercato. The website reports that after Lille targeted the Watford winger on Sunday, Nantes have pushed themselves into the picture.

According to their information, the French side are eager to significantly bolster their attack as they fight against relegation. That’s seen them set their sights on Maamma.

Negotiations are now underway with Watford regarding the 20-year-old. They want to finalise a deal as quickly as possible, but FM don’t mention whether it would be a loan or a permanent transfer. Given it’s deadline day, a loan may be more likely.

What they do say is that Ahmed Kantari, Nantes coach and a fellow Moroccan, is keen on the move happening. He’s a big fan of the Watford youngster.

Maamma is also keen to showcase his talent as much as possible before the summer. He dreams of playing for Morocco at the World Cup. He seemingly thinks that’s more likely at Nantes than Watford, despite being a regular for the Hornets this season.

He’s got 14 starts in the Championship to date, although they were under Javi Gracia, who has now departed Vicarage Road. Perhaps that turmoil has seen the youngster look elsewhere.

Either way, Nantes have now entered the race and are battling Lille for his signature.
