In a story about Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly, outlet Calcio Mercato writes a very true phrase claiming ‘every summer always seems to be the last’ for the player at the Serie A side.
The rumours about his departure at the end of the season have already started. The main reason for that is his contract, which expires in 2023, so the Italian club could tell him to either sign a new deal or be sold.
Speaking of potential destinations for the defender, there’s once again Manchester United, whose interest in him isn’t exactly new.
Calcio Mercato writes that the Red Devils had previously offered ‘over €100m’ for Koulibaly, and even though Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis turned down those figures in the past, ‘the scenario could change’ in a few months.
It’s said that in the talks for a renewal, Napoli will ask Koulibaly to take a pay cut, as he has the biggest salary at the club and they can’t afford to pay him that much anymore.
The Serie A side are going through financial issues, and that’s why a sale could end up helping them. Calcio Mercato says there could be attractive offers ‘especially from the Premier League’, even though it’s still not clear if Manchester United will be back with a new attempt soon.
