As Genoa made a big sale when negotiating Radu Dragusin with Tottenham Hotspur last month, that transfer is still a subject in the Italian media.
We now get to see interesting quotes from club CEO Andres Blazquez, who detailed what they had been through to accept the defender’s departure in the middle of the season.
Speaking to TuttoMercatoWeb, the chief explained that Genoa had been under pressure to get a sale done, and Tottenham’s attempt for Dragusin came just at the right time.
“We could not do anything until we freed up some salaries or sold a player. We were forced to sell in order to do something. We evaluated the player who had the most important market, in a position where we were better off, was Dragusin,” said Blazquez.
“He received a very important offer on a personal level and we on a corporate level. We tried to get as much as possible for him knowing that his position was best covered. We are happy with this transfer, of course we will miss Radu both on a personal and on a sporting level, he is a great professional but it is also a prestige to sell to a club like Tottenham having also had offers from Bayern. That says a lot about the job Spurs has done.”
Tottenham spent €25m to sign Dragusin for Genoa, who made a big profit with this deal, as they had spent just €9.7m to sign him from Juventus last summer.
The centre-back is still to get his first start at Spurs, and had a few minutes on the pitch in matches against Manchester United, Brentford and Everton.
Tottenham stayed unbeaten in that sequence, but Ange Postecoglou’s defence conceded two goals in each of those matches. So we’ll see if Dragusin will get his first chance to start in the coming weeks.
