Four months ago, the world fell in love with Santiago Fretes, a young Racing fan who lent his crutch to a friend so they could both watch Diego Milito’s farewell from the club.
Santiago has spent his short life without a right leg. But his mother, Sabri Bonomo, has always made sure it couldn’t be used as a reason to hold his childhood back, since he plays football, fights taekwondo and rides his bike on his own way to both.
After the photograph was taken, Santiago’s story became very well known in Argentina, and he was invited to visit Racing’s training centre and meet several of his heroes.
The club even gave him custom crutches at the time, but the biggest gift has arrived his month.

The youngster now has a prosthetic leg. His mum has been posting several updates regarding his development to Twitter, where she shows how well (and daringly) Santiago has been walking through the Santander streets.
Although a few Argentine outlets say Racing paid for the leg, Sabri Bonomo told Sport Witness it was a social organisation related to the club who made the dream possible.
But Santiago doesn’t seem to care where it came from, as long as his club’s crest is now printed on his right leg.

All the best of luck to Santiago, a young man whose determination is truly inspirational.
