Manchester United suffered a 4-0 defeat at the hands of Liverpool on Tuesday, days after managing a 3-2 win over Norwich City.
The Red Devils failed to have any impact against the Reds as they managed two shots, with only one on target, and had 28 percent possession at Anfield.
After the tie, Ralf Rangnick admitted Manchester United “need a rebuild”, mainly because ‘quite a few contracts’ are due to expire on June 30th.
The rebuild process will begin with the appointment of Erik ten Hag as their new manager. Earlier reports indicated the Premier League side and the Ajax manager have reached a verbal agreement and an announcement could be made soon.
Former Ajax striker and manager, Marco van Basten, is of the belief that Ten Hag should question his decision to take the Manchester United job after their defeat to Liverpool.
“The difference between Liverpool and Manchester United is huge. They walk around like beaten people. This is one of the biggest clubs in England and not one of them really gets excited,” Van Basten told Ziggo Sport, relayed by Ajax Showtime.
“You have to start wondering if Manchester United might have doubts about Erik ten Hag or should Erik ten Hag have doubts about Manchester United? I think this is sad to see for such a big club.”
