Rubén Sellés last three jobs were Southampton, Reading, Hull City and Sheffield United, and he joined Real Zaragoza on Monday.
The Spaniard started as an assistant manager at Southampton in 2022. He was appointed as caretaker manager on two occasions before taking over permanently in February 2023.
Later that year, Rubén Sellés joined Reading and then left them for Hull City in December 2024. The manager played a key role in helping the Tigers avoid relegation from the Championship last season.
The 42-year-old joined Sheffield United in July and his stay there was short lived. They parted ways with him in September, and he returned to bench to join Real Zaragoza.
In his first interview with the Spanish club, he talks about Southampton, Reading and Hull City. El Desmarque have relayed his comments.
Real Zaragoza are at the bottom of the Segunda División table, with one win in 10 matches. Rubén Sellés indicates his experience at Southampton, Reading and Hull City can help his new club.
“In the last three years, especially at clubs like Southampton, Reading, and Hull City, we’ve experienced situations similar to the one we’re currently experiencing at Real Zaragoza,” he said.
“And always with the ambition, in those slightly tougher moments, to be able to show that character. That know-how, staying calm, and, above all, trying to take it game by game. Day by day, improving our feelings. It’s an environment where, for various reasons, we’ve felt comfortable.”
The manager sees himself capable of saving Real Zaragoza’s season.
“From the first moment the opportunity arose, seeing the team, the type of players, the fans, what it means, and, above all, the way I manage and do things, it seemed to me that we could have that synergy. That harmony. I mean, it’s a difficult situation, but we can continue. We can move forward,” Rubén Sellés explained.
