Newcastle United are close to appointing Matthias Jaissle as Eddie Howe’s successor and the incoming manager is already at work.
Earlier this week, Sport Witness covered claims from the Dutch press that Jaissle’s first request is to sign Anis Hadj Moussa.
The German coach is a fan of the Feyenoord star and had tried signing him for Al-Ahli. That attempt was unsuccessful and now he wants to try again with the Magpies.
Claims of Newcastle United agreement
DZ Foot relays claims made elsewhere of Newcastle United making concrete advances to sign the forward.
The Magpies reportedly have an agreement in principle for a five-year contract with the Algeria international. This will see him improve his salary to £6.2m [€7.23m] per year.
These claims also stated the Premier League side are preparing to offer £32m [€37.3m] plus £3m [€3.5m] bonuses, while Feyenoord are demanding £37m [€43.2m].
Anis Hadj Moussa has given priority to the Magpies amid interest from Benfica, Sporting and unnamed Saudi Arabian clubs.
Newcastle United’s quick denial
365 Scores claims to have contacted Magpies sporting director Ross Wilson for an update about claims of Newcastle United’s agreement.
The English club’s official has categorically denied an agreement for the 24-year-old. In fact, he ruled out any advanced negotiations to sign the Eredivisie side’s attacker.
Wilson indicates the claims from Algeria don’t reflect the Premier League side’s activities in this transfer window. The outlet says the director revealed these, but there’s no mention of his quotes.
Either way, this report would be enough to put claims of Newcastle United’s agreement with Anis Hadj Moussa to bed.
Last month, Moussa’s agent Mohamed Dahman said he could leave Feyenoord in this window. He said: “Anis Hadj Moussa will play for another team, God willing.”
Taking this into account, there’s a possibility that the representative or an intermediary could use Newcastle United to create a hype around him. Should Magpies interest be genuine, it’s not yet as advanced as some reports have it.
Newcastle United have a habit of denying everything to the media until it’s done, so that needs considering.
Last season, the winger scored 14 goals and contributed seven assists from 50 matches for Feyenoord.
