Scott Brown has been receiving admiration around the European press over the past week for being something of a Scottish hard-man.

First, he walked around Saint Petersburg in just a t-shirt, which impressed the locals, and now it’s the way he’s jumped up from a tackle which is bringing tributes.

The Celtic captain was on the end of two big challenges, if we can call them that, from Aberdeen players, almost at the same time, on Sunday.

His reaction to jump up, throw out a primal scream, and flex his muscles has brought the Celtic midfielder some positive attention.

Voetbal International in the Netherlands called it ‘romantic and masculine’, and thought it was a nice change from ‘nagging for a card for the opponent’.

Over in Spain, Estadio Deportivo said it was an ‘incredible reaction’ from Scott Brown to two ‘beastly’ Aberdeen challenges. The Spanish newspaper add: ‘The Scottish league has always been characterised by its hardness, but yesterday it created a really incredible image.

‘The tackles were very hard looking to injure the player, but the reaction was to get up and celebrate his endurance, proving he is a great captain.’

And if that’s not enough Spanish praise for the Celtic player, here’s some more from Mundo Deportivo. The Aberdeen fouls are labelled ‘criminal’ and then it’s stated: ‘Far from getting angry, the Scottish team’s player stood up and claimed his strength, showing off his good humour. A great example to follow.’
