Roberto de Zerbi remain at Brighton and Hove Albion forever, as he needs to compete at a higher level to earn the interest of the big clubs.
That’s according to journalist Mario Beretta, who believes the Italian needs to put himself in the spotlight to be in contention for the real big jobs.
De Zerbi has found himself showered in praise over the last two years after replacing Graham Potter at Brighton in 2022.
Since then, he’s led the Seagulls up the Premier League to a first-ever European finish and into the Europa League this season.
He’s also been credited with introducing a thrilling, attacking brand of football and helping to continue to develop the young talent at the club to boot.
This season has proven to be a tougher one for him and the club as a combination of big exits, European football and injuries have proven difficult to navigate around.
Despite that De Zerbi has continued to be linked with the big clubs this summer, with Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Liverpool and even Italian sides Juventus, AC Milan and Napoli all linked with potential moves at various points.
The Italian has repeatedly insisted he’ll remain at Brighton and reiterated that this week, but Beretta believes that can’t remain the case forever if he wants to ever progress.
“He is an excellent coach, in Ukraine he managed to do something important, he brought Brighton to Europe for the first time in its history,” he said.
“Allegri also went to Milan from Cagliari, after having made his own journey. Sooner or later, you have to compete with the big clubs, give them the opportunity and see.”
