Earlier this month comments from Robert Lewandowski about Bayern Munich being better placed for the second half of the season than they had been in the previous few years, were seen as the striker taking a shot at Manchester City Pep Guardiola.

Whilst that was almost certainly over exaggerated, with Lewandowski simply feeling happy with the preparation and optimistic about the run-in, it was inevitable that when SportBild interviewed the player, not long afterwards, they would ask about Guardiola.

The German magazine put it to Lewandowski: ‘How do you judge the work of Pep Guardiola at Manchester City? Your former trainer has serious problems…”

The Polish international managed to swerve the trap and certainly didn’t send any snipes to Guardiola this time: “The first season is always very difficult. But the time is working for him. I am sure that Guardiola will get City under control. Even if he does not get a title this year, he will work there successfully.”

Nice, and positive and ever so diplomatic. It probably wasn’t what SportBild were looking for about Guardiola’s Manchester City struggles, but it somewhat dilutes suggestions Lewandowski isn’t keen on the Spanish manager.
