Southampton are set to lose youngster Alejandro to Lyon with a medical booked in for next week.
That’s according to L’Equipe, who say the 16-year-old will sign his first professional contract with the Ligue 1 side after undergoing a medical.
The newspaper reports that Lyon have ‘just made a big splash’ on the European market with their move for Rodriguez.
They’ve already secured an agreement with the 16-year-old, who is one of the most followed players in Europe among those born in 2008.
The Southampton youngster had offered from Chelsea, Manchester City and Italian clubs this summer but has decided to sign his first professional contract with Lyon. He’ll join them on a three-year deal, with an additional two years set to be added almost automatically.
Lyon’s director of recruitment Matthieu Louis-Jean was ‘instrumental’ in the move for the Southampton striker, travelling to the south of England several times to convince the 16-year-old of the move.
He’s succeeded on that front and Gomez Rodriguez is now set to travel to France next Wednesday before under a medical examination in Décines on Thursday before signing his contract at the club.
