Leicester City player Ricardo Pereira has spoken to his home country’s press this week. Interviewed by Portuguese newspaper Record, the right-back talked about his good form at the club.
Record talked much about the assist he’s made in the match against Huddersfield Town, and covered how important the player has been to the Foxes.
“We play very fast here, because the teams are more aggressive and are always accelerating,” Ricardo Pereira told Record. “But the arrival of the new coach to the club made us control the games more. It’s more paused and we press quick. I noticed that. My job is not to score goals. My focus is on making assists.”
Regarding who he makes more assists for, Pereira explained his target ‘is mainly Vardy’.
“It’s a good idea to have a reference. Vardy is the team’s top scorer and we play for him, of course. In Portugal, I crossed in several ways and for several players. Here is different. There is a target and we act accordingly. I already know the way Vardy plays, as well as the moves.”
Pereira has also spoken about the success that Portuguese players have been having in the Premier League. Especially Wolverhampton Wanderers and Everton, since both clubs are managed by a Portuguese boss.
“It’s always positive and I’m happy for them. Wolves and Everton fight with us and I have friends there, but Leicester comes first.
“People see quality in the Portuguese players. It was like that last season thanks to Bernardo (Silva, Manchester City), but this season, the good results led to this perception. Even Wolves’ performances with Nuno. This has emphasised the Portuguese player.”
