On June 15th, Sky Deutschland journalist Florian Plettenberg stated Manchester United have held internal discussions over the possibility of signing Bayern Munich’s Matthijs de Ligt in the summer window.
Plettenberg took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to back it up, and then provided the latest on the Red Devils’ interest in the defender.
He says he’s had it ‘revealed and confirmed again’ that De Ligt is still a target for Manchester United.
The Premier League side have included the 24-year-old in their list, along with Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite and Lille’s Leny Yoro.
De Ligt has played under Erik ten Hag at Ajax, and the journalist claims the Manchester United manager still appreciates the Netherlands international.
The Dutchman’s deal lasts until 2027, and he made 30 appearances for the Bundesliga side last season. He will hold concrete talks with Bayern after the Euros to sort out his future.
De Ligt could leave this summer if an offer convinces Bayern. Plettenberg claims the Red Devils, who value him around €50m, haven’t yet made an offer.
In need of a new centre-back, Manchester United could consider signing De Ligt for €50m this summer.
