Napoli have backed themselves into something of a corner with Victor Osimhen. For a long time they’ve been talking up the idea of a sale for more than €100m but there’s been no serious approaches at that level.
The club didn’t have a great season which reflects at least a little on the player and his value is likely less than it was a year ago.
This week has seen Chelsea dragged back into the picture, with reports that Romelu Lukaku could move to Napoli, along with around €70m, for Osimhen to go in the other direction.
Some in Italy have moved to calm down those claims, and separately the player’s agent isn’t very happy with what’s been happening.
Roberto Calenda took to social media to vent his anger at the reports: “I read about imaginative exchanges with Victor sent here and there as if he were a package to be delivered quickly. This package, however, is the top scorer of the third scudetto in Napoli’s history. Respect and stop with fake news!”
It would appear then that if there is an ongoing effort to send Osimhen to Chelsea and get Lukaku and money in return that his agent hasn’t been informed.
Osimhen himself would surely be thrilled with a transfer to Chelsea, given his desire to play in the Premier League one day.
There’s every chance Napoli have approached Chelsea for a deal, but neglected to inform Calenda about that.
